OBAR Partners with SourceRE to Provide Governed AI Access to MLS Data

October 15, 2026

The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® will use the SourceRE MCP to give agents compliant access to OBAR MLS data through AI platforms like Chat GPT and Claude, with governed distribution and licensing handled through the SourceRE Data Marketplace.

NAGS HEAD, NC — October 15, 2026 — The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR), which operates the multiple listing service for the Outer Banks and surrounding northeastern North Carolina market, has partnered with SourceRE to deliver governed, fully compliant access to its MLS data through artificial intelligence. The connection covers OBAR’s membership of more than 1,100 real estate professionals working across residential sales, commercial sales, property management, appraisal, and development.

Today, portals, aggregators, scrapers, and other third parties serve as intermediaries between AI platforms and MLS data. This limits the MLS’s ability to enforce its rules, protect its intellectual property rights, and control how its data is used. The SourceRE MCP instead establishes a governed, compliant pathway under the control of the MLS. It functions as a single, direct connection between an MLS database and AI platforms like Chat GPT, Claude, and Grok.

“Our members are working in one of the most distinctive markets in the country, and the data behind it belongs to them,” said Janice Scarborough, 2026 President of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®. “Agents are already using AI tools every day. This lets them do that with our listing data without it traveling through channels we have no say over, and it gives OBAR one place to set the rules.”

OBAR is also partnering with SourceRE for governed data distribution. Through the SourceRE Data Marketplace, OBAR can license its data to vendors, PropTech companies, and other approved consumers from a single managed environment, with onboarding, licensing terms, billing, and RESO certified API access handled in one place. Every feed distributed through SourceRE carries Data Dye™, SourceRE’s proprietary forensic tracking technology, which makes OBAR data traceable at the source so unauthorized use can be identified and acted on. Together, the two services give OBAR one governed pathway for its data whether it is being accessed by an AI platform or a traditional technology partner.

“Associations like OBAR are proof that you don’t need to be the largest MLS in the country to lead on how AI gets access to your data,” said Andrew Coca, CEO of SourceRE. “AI is already using MLS data nationwide without the MLS. It’s our job to instead make sure it happens through the MLS, and on their terms.”
